Whether it is thinking about vision statements, working on general event planning, or finding an effective way to handle transition - LFC is available to share the effective practices we've gathered from our experiences. These workshops are highly customized and collaborative in nature - we want your group members to own the process.

Past In-Service Workshops
28 February 2014
Pace Center On February 28, 2014, LFC Public Outreach Director Christopher Huie lead an event-planning workshop at the Pace Center. Prior to the workshop, Christopher had organized two large conferences at Princeton--the East Coast Startup Summit in the spring of 2013 and the TED Talk in the fall of 2013. He shared his experiences and advice with a small group of students leaders across multiple groups on campus, which included various Pace Center groups and Engineers Without Borders. The main topics he covered were registration, timelining, internal development and team management, logistics, funding, and marketing. All of this advice was very Princeton-specific, as specific names of people, departments, and facilities were discussed. The workshop was very informative and dynamic, as many student leaders actually used Christopher's initial suggestions as a springboard to bounce ideas of each other for their specific events. Overall, the workshop was very well-received, and LFC definitely plans to continue to partner with the Pace Center for future leadership development activities. |
23 September 2012 - Women of Mathey Advising Network
Prospect House
LFC worked with about 30 students from WOMAN, a year-old female mentoring program housed in Mathey, at their kick off event for the 2012-2013 school year. LFC members discussed LFC's 'philosophy of leadership,' led icebreakers, and facilitated a conversation on creating comfortable environments. Student participants responded to a feedback survey with the following lessons learned: "being comfortable is important and we need to take more initiative with our leadership," "leadership is multifaceted in a way that everyone can be a leader," and "[I realized it is important to have] clear communication and assessment, both within the group and for yourself."
19 May 2012 - Princeton Opera Company (POCO)
Wilson Private Dining Room
LFC members worked with POCO on a 1.5 hour workshop that involved the development of a mission and vision statement. We also helped brainstorm ways to restructure the Executive Board and delineate responsibilites to increase productivity. Pictured here: LFC members lead POCO through a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) and gap analysis to inspire members to think about more ambitious, yet feasible, goals.
27 March 2012 - Rocky College
Rocky Private Dining Room
LFC collaborated with Rocky College on a workshop around 'How to Run Effective Meetings.' The workshop was designed with the understanding that meetings are important sites to practice and demonstrate leadership. Because a member's time is valuable, a leader should ensure that meetings are both fun and productive. LFC facilitated a conversation around how leaders can guide decision-making processes before, during and after a meeting.

25 February 2012 - Princeton Analytics Group
Campus Club
LFC worked with Princeton Analytics Group at their first annual retreat. During the 1.5-hour workshop, LFC walked through ways that PAG could invest particularly in younger members, identifying potential leaders early on in their Princeton career and giving them more opportunities to exercise leadership. Other objectives included the development of a personal and PAG definition of 'leadership.' Feedback collected from a post-workshop survey included the following: "The presenters had a lot of energy and got everyone engaged. It was a fun experience." and "[The workshop] primed everyone into thinking about leadership in the PAG context."
19 February 2012 - Center for Jewish Life Student Board
Center for Jewish Life
LFC worked with the Student Board of The CJL on a workshop focused around event planning. The 1-hour workshop involved a review of the CJL's mission, vision and goals; a discussion around events in the pipeline and intended audience; community mapping; and backwards planning. Feedback from participants, collected in a post-workshop survey, included: "It was great that you guys came [early] to 'observe' how our meetings are! I think that was really helpful for both us and you." Another participant added: "I really liked that we made what you were saying concrete and actually worked through an event and a timeline for planning. I also appreciated the reminder that it would behoove us to pause every once in a while and remind ourselves why we're planning our events."
